Our Mission

The mission of Pacific Link International Educational Services (PLIES) is to create educational opportunities for emerging leaders from Asia to develop character, purpose, and life skills.

Our History

PLIES was established in 1997 as a for-profit company to provide English camps and Christian homestays for Chinese youth in the United States. In 1997, we hosted our first Headmaster Education Forum in California to establish relationships with schools in China. Over the period of six years, over 600 middle school students from China participated in our summer study tours. In 2002, we expanded our program offering to include a three-month intensive English program. Our partnerships have included schools in China like the Guangdong Country Garden School, the Huamei International School, and the China Center for International Education Exchange which is affiliated with the Ministry of Education in China. In 2004, the PLIES board of directors decided to defer its programs because of difficulties in bringing Chinese students to the United States in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks.

 

In 2011, our board of directors relaunched the organization with the growing trend of students from China coming to the U.S. at younger ages for education. We opened a legally registered educational consulting company in Shanghai. That same year, we launched our high school year program in partnership with five high schools in the U.S. Now we have 12 partner schools and we offer four YouthLink programs and our newly designed FamilyLink trips. Our U.S. headquarters is at Innovation Park @ the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. Our Executive Director reports to a US-based Board of Directors. In 2016, we launched new partnership opportunities in Vietnam.
